LIFESTYLE in Britain

One of the most typical characteristics of  British people is their self-discipline. It is said that they are always polite, have good manners, and are never tired of saying polite phrases like "Exuse me" or "I beg your pardon".

Even the word "gentleman", which is used all over the world, is of English origin. It means a man with good manners. On the other hand, the British are very conservative. They don´t like to show their emotions, no matter how dangerous the situation is. Englishmen think it is impolite to ask personal questions. They are also known for "keeping themselves to themselves". For example, they are not used to  kissing hello as people from countries on the European continent are.The British are very reserved, and privacy is important to them. Maybe you know the motto: "My home is my castle".Almost every Englishman dreams of having a house with a small garden. About 60 percent of British people live in houses. Most of these houses have a hedge or a fence all around.And how do the British spend their free time ?  Going to the cinema and spending time in fitness centres- these are favourite leisure activities in Britain these days. Keeping fit is becoming very popular, but on the other hand there are many British people who prefer to stay  at home and watch television or work on the garden.Englishmen also buy more and more fast food like burgers, fried chicken or etnic takeaway foods. Their favourite  snack food is pizza. But together  with fastfood they also buy more pub  meals than before.It seems that the British have started to prefer soft drinks and wine  to having  a beer. They eat in a restaurant about twice a week. It is only one of the reasons why the lifestyle in Britain is the third most expensivein world.A study of British lifestyle from the year 2008 shows that the average British salary would last longer in any other country in the world except NORWAY and FRANCE. However , lifestyle in Britain will probably change along with  the changing economic situation in the world.
